Hey everybody. Ritual nod. You remember that Parallax asked if I was interested in experimentally turning the online course Sex, Death & the Occult into a book?
We did it.
Thanks to Tom, Andrew (and now Cordula) over at Parallax.
Combining the re-edited material from the course that Rachel and I hosted, new additions, tweaks, and some material from the earlier course Teratogenic Mystique (thanks Scout), we produced a literally unique volume of liminal trans-ontological new occultism.
Extra essays. Defined terms. Images. And many other secret things I slipped into the text so that even people who participated in the online course will make new discoveries. Now there’s:
(a) pre-ordering (and soon regular ordering)
(b) live Parallax book launch event on the Summer Solistice
In some ways this is the first book of Xagick. Both the contents & the peculiar style represent the movement to cultivate a new magical discourse that updates the metaphysics, adapts to the integrative digital-planetary ecosystem, and builds alliances with cognitive science, psychoanalysis, leading-edge philosophy and new wisdom movements.
Most importantly it takes up the project of Making Occultism Occult Again.
That means the role of Mystery, non-linear sensemaking, & the significance of the subconscious Other-of-the-Self in evolving our “magical body” and “trans-ontological agency” as part of re-enchanted communities.
This is a collective work that many of are feeling into from different angles. And it will continue in the next article from this Substack. I just wanted to take the opportunity of this book’s publishing to re-affirm my conviction that the upgrade of ourselves and the world, and the flourishing of new depth, development and wisdom movements, cannot succeed without the unique contributions that have traditionally been marginalized as magical, occult and esoteric countercultures.
So (1) buy the book, and
(2) join us for readings, drinks & conviviality at the Parallax book launch.
Aum. Ha.
Amen.
May it be so.
